Mexico's soccer history traces back to British miners from Cornwall who introduced the sport in the 19th century in Mineral del Monte, near Pachuca. These miners played among themselves and then involved Mexicans, spreading football fever. Organized soccer began with the founding of the Pachuca Football Club in 1892, earning Pachuca the title "The Cradle of Soccer." The Cornish miners also left a legacy of the Cornish pasty, which locals adapted with Mexican ingredients.
