Mental health is a significant public health issue in Nepal, with approximately one in ten adults and 5.2% of adolescents estimated to have a mental disorder. Around 7.2% of adults have experienced suicidal ideation, and 1.1% have attempted suicide. Stigma, lack of awareness, affordability, and limited availability of services, particularly in rural areas, are major barriers to seeking professional help. The youth are particularly vulnerable due to academic pressure and social media influence. Despite being included in national health policies, mental health services suffer from weak implementation, inadequate funding, and a shortage of trained professionals.
