Tiny Blue Mystery of the Deep: Scientists Discover New Octopus Species Near Galapagos

Researchers exploring near the Galapagos Islands have identified a new octopus species, Microeledone galapagensis, found nearly 1,800 meters below the ocean surface. The tiny, blue creature, initially spotted during a deep-sea expedition by the Charles Darwin Foundation, was later analyzed by octopus expert Janet Voight at the Field Museum of Natural History. Its unique characteristics and presence near the Galapagos, far from its typical Antarctic habitat, make this discovery particularly surprising and highlight the vast unexplored nature of Earth's oceans.
