Seabird habitats shrink as ocean heats up
▸ Part of: UK climate advisers urge maximum temperature rules amid escalating crisis
A new study suggests climate change could force seabirds into smaller habitats and require them to fly farther, leading to a contraction of their geographic range. Researchers found that as climate change accelerates, suitable habitats shrink, increasing mortality rates and the risk of extinction, particularly for species with limited flying capacity. In a worst-case scenario, 70 percent of species may reduce their range by 2100.
