Construction on the Butwal–Palpa tunnel along the Siddhartha Highway is nearing completion, with operations targeted for October. The project has achieved 68 percent physical progress and 58 percent financial progress. While initial phases faced delays due to legal and technical issues, these are being resolved, and the contractor will manage operation and maintenance for five years post-completion. The tunnel aims to enhance safety on a section prone to landslides.
