Peacekeeping missions hit by funding crunch, conflicts
International peacekeeping operations are facing a crisis due to declining troop numbers, financial strain, and rising geopolitical tensions, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). The number of deployed peacekeepers has dropped to its lowest level in at least 25 years, attributed to a financial shortfall of around 2 billion US dollars. SIPRI expert Zair von der Lijn warned that weakening global conflict management mechanisms could significantly impact institutions like the United Nations.
