Nine former Kumaris and Chitaydar Durga Devi Shakya were honored in Kathmandu at a program organized by Save Newa Valley. Special guest Kulbhakta Shakya honored the former Kumaris, along with other cultural figures. Speakers emphasized the Kumari tradition as a living tradition of unity and discussed threats to Newa culture and heritage, also objecting to the misuse of technology regarding images of the living goddess Kumari.
