The main opposition party Nepali Congress suspects that former Home Minister Sudhan Gurung is being exonerated through a government-formed probe committee. Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe expressed concern that the committee might try to acquit Gurung instead of finding the truth and called for an impartial investigation. Gurung resigned on moral grounds on April 9 due to questions raised about his share investment and financial relationship with businessman Deepak Bhatt. The government formed a three-member investigation committee, led by former High Court judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, three weeks after the resignation.
