The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo a public health emergency of international concern. The outbreak in Ituri province has seen approximately 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths. The Bundibugyo virus, for which there are no approved drugs or vaccines, has spread to neighboring Uganda with two confirmed cases. The WHO cited security issues, humanitarian crisis, high population mobility, and urban hotspots as factors increasing the risk of spread.
