The government has decided to restructure the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) into three separate companies for generation, transmission, and distribution. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle announced that licenses for projects without construction starts despite a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will be canceled, and a new 'take or pay' model will be used for PPAs. The private sector will be allowed to trade electricity internationally.
