The United States State Department stated that Pakistani politics are "a matter for the Pakistani people to decide" following the publication of a classified diplomatic cable. The cable alleges a senior American diplomat told Islamabad that "all will be forgiven" if then-Prime Minister Imran Khan was removed from office. The cable documents a meeting between Pakistan’s then ambassador and US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, who allegedly conveyed concerns about Khan's Moscow visit and suggested his removal through a no-confidence vote could resolve Washington's concerns.
