Health insurance scheme suspended in private hospitals

The Health Insurance Board has decided to suspend the health insurance scheme in all private hospitals starting May 30 due to the Board's growing financial crisis. Services, except emergencies, provided by private health institutions affiliated with the government insurance scheme are suspended until further notice. A total of 36 private hospitals were affiliated with the Board, which provides medical care services up to Rs. 100,000 for a family of five on a yearly contribution of Rs. 3,500. The scheme has 5.6 million participants.
