Australia Confirms First Diphtheria Death in a Decade Amidst Outbreak
Australia has confirmed its first death from diphtheria in nearly a decade, marking the most serious health crisis from the disease in recent years. The outbreak has intensified in the Northern Territory, leading to a state of emergency declaration in March, with cases also found in Western Australia, South Australia, and Queensland. This year alone, nearly 245 cases have been detected, the largest outbreak since 1991, particularly prevalent in remote Aboriginal communities.
