Missing Monk Found Dead During Mardi Peak Trek in Kaski

A monk, identified as Monk Dhamisaro from Sangharam Buddha Bihar in Kathmandu, who went missing during the Mardi Peak trek on May 13, has been found dead. His body was recovered from a gorge near the Upper Viewpoint area by a search team comprising security personnel and local tourism entrepreneurs.

  • The body was found in a gorge beneath a hill at the Upper Viewpoint area of Mardi Peak.
  • Traces on the snow and human clothing deep down from a cliff provided clues for the rescue team.
  • The difficult terrain made manual recovery of the body impossible, and a helicopter rescue was requested but not immediately available.
  • The monk had last stayed at the low-camp on May 12 and reached Mardi’s View Point at an altitude of 4,200 meters the following day.
