The Nepal Cyber Bureau has filed a case against 13 individuals accused of orchestrating an online banking fraud that resulted in the theft of Rs 3,482,377 through an SMS phishing scam. The victim clicked a link in a message, leading to unauthorized access to his Connect IPS account and subsequent fund transfers to multiple accounts and digital wallets.

  • The incident occurred on May 26, 2025, when the victim, Santosh Kumar Chaudhary, received a suspicious SMS message.
  • Funds were transferred to primary accounts including those of Bibash Bamjan, Yab Kumar Kewat, Durgesh Kewat, and Samir Praja, before being routed to nine additional accounts.
  • Investigators confirmed the attackers gained unauthorized access to the victim's bank accounts at Nepal Bank Limited and Laxmi Sunrise Bank Limited.
  • The stolen funds were laundered through a layered financial structure to conceal their origin.
