Pokhara is planning to develop the Phirke River by connecting it to South Korea's Cheonggyecheon River, a project aimed at creating a tourist area. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya has proposed implementing the Cheonggyecheon River project in Phirke, which involves building an organized footpath, a safe bicycle lane, and an attractive destination on both sides of the approximately 8-kilometer-long river. The Asian Development Bank is partnering with the Metropolitan City on this initiative, which includes clearing riverbanks, managing waste, and potentially mixing Yamdi River water into Phirke during dry seasons.
