Nepal's public debt surged by over Rs. 300 billion by mid-May of the current fiscal year 2025/26, reaching Rs. 2,975.04 billion. This increase includes Rs. 113 billion in domestic debt and Rs. 187.99 billion in external debt, with currency depreciation alone adding Rs. 167.75 billion. The government utilized 71.17 percent of its Rs. 411.01 billion budget for debt servicing, spending Rs. 292.52 billion on principal and interest payments.
