Breaking Barriers in the Digital Age: Women in the 21st Century Information Technology Profession
International Women’s Day 2026, celebrated on March 8, recognizes women’s achievements and challenges in pursuit of equality, with the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.” Despite opportunities in the 21st-century information technology sector, women face significant barriers, including historical stereotypes, gender gaps in STEM education, workplace bias, and challenges balancing careers with societal expectations. While women are increasingly contributing as innovators and leaders, their representation in Nepal’s IT sector remains low, particularly in technical roles and leadership positions.
