Nepal moves ahead with landmark power transmission project linking China
Nepal's Cabinet has approved a formal response letter to Beijing for the implementation of the proposed Chilime–Kerung cross-border transmission line project, a significant step towards deepening energy cooperation with China. This move is expected to advance Nepal's goal of establishing a cross-border electricity transmission network with China, potentially enabling electricity exports. The project, agreed upon during former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to China, involves constructing a 220 kV transmission line connecting Chilime in Rasuwa district to Gyirong in Tibet. Feasibility studies are also underway for another transmission corridor linking Nepal and China through Kimathanka in Sankhuwasabha district.
