Nepal's electricity exports to Bangladesh are dependent on India's approval, as power must travel through Indian transmission lines. While a tripartite agreement exists, each additional megawatt requires fresh clearance from India's Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The expansion of exports by 20 megawatts, targeted for June 15th, 2026, is uncertain as the CEA has not yet provided clearance. India has also established a policy of not buying power from Nepali projects involving Chinese investment, equipment, or contractors, creating a strategic constraint for Nepal.
