The District Administration Office, Mahottari, has issued 209 citizenship certificates based on mothers' lineage in the past four months. This follows a Cabinet decision on December 26, 2025, to grant citizenship to children whose fathers' identities are unknown, a provision published in the Nepal Gazette on January 5, 2026. Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav stated that 209 individuals received citizenship certificates under this provision between January 20 and May 23.
