The District Administration Office in Mahottari has issued 209 citizenship certificates based on mothers' lineage over the past four months. This follows a Cabinet decision from December 26, 2025, published in the Nepal Gazette on January 5, 2026, which allows children whose fathers' identities are unknown to receive citizenship by descent. Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav stated that 209 individuals have received citizenship certificates under this provision between January 20 and May 23.
