The number of active international students in the United States decreased by 45,370, or 3.7%, between February and May 2026, according to SEVIS data. China and India experienced the largest absolute declines, with 14,295 and 8,778 fewer students respectively. The number of Nepali students also fell by 487 during this period, with Texas remaining the top destination.
