Public debt nears Rs 3 trillion; spikes by Rs 532 billion in 10 months

Nepal's public debt has reached Rs 2.975 trillion in the first ten months of fiscal year 2025/26, with Rs 532.91 billion in new debt accumulated during this period. A strengthening US dollar added Rs 167.75 billion in exchange-rate liabilities. The National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission has called for a ban on using internal loans for administrative costs, while the Office of the Auditor General criticized the misallocation of development loans for operational expenses.
