Meta Reaches Settlement in Lawsuit Alleging Social Media Harms to Children

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has settled a lawsuit with the Breathitt County School District in Kentucky, which alleged that social media platforms contribute to mental health issues in children. The lawsuit claimed that Meta intentionally made its platforms addictive, leading to problems like anxiety and depression among students. This case was considered a test for over 1,200 similar lawsuits filed by school districts across the US against companies including Meta, TikTok, and Snap Inc. The terms of Meta's settlement were not disclosed, but the company stated it has implemented safety features for teenagers.
