The Government of Nepal has formally requested a three-year postponement of its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status to developing nation status, seeking to defer the date from November 24, 2026, to November 2029. Citing domestic and global economic challenges, including regional conflicts, supply chain disruptions, and fragile post-pandemic recovery, the government fears losing preferential trade benefits like Duty-Free Quota-Free (DFQF) market access. This delay aims to provide additional time to strengthen export competitiveness, industrial productivity, and macroeconomic stability.
