Budget 2026/27: High-Level Panel to Review Multi-Rate VAT System

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle announced the formation of a high-level advisory committee to study the feasibility of a multi-rate VAT system and major tax reforms aimed at shifting tax administration to a development-oriented partner. The budget for fiscal year 2083/84 also includes measures for taxpayer-friendly environments, a special discount and settlement scheme for tax disputes, and administrative restructuring reducing ministries from 22 to 18, dissolving 31 government agencies, and merging or restructuring others, expecting to save around Rs 20 billion.
