76th Annapurna Ascent Day to be marked

Part of: Mount Everest Faces Overcrowding Amidst Rising Popularity and Fee Increases

Preparations are underway in Narchyang, Myagdi, to mark the 76th Annapurna Ascent Day next week with various programs including a race and trekking. The event commemorates the first ascent of Annapurna by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal on June 3, 1950. Annapurna Rural Municipality has allocated Rs 1 million for the celebrations, which are being held at the mountain's actual geographic location. Annapurna Base Camp is also developing into an attractive destination for domestic tourists.
