Climbers achieve historic no-oxygen summits on Mt. Kangchenjunga

Veteran mountaineers Piotr Jerzy Krzyzowski of Poland and Gian Luca Cavalli of Italy successfully summited Mt. Kangchenjunga (8,586m) on May 20, 2026, without supplemental oxygen or Sherpa support. The achievement occurred despite ferocious winds that had forced the route-fixing team to retreat, creating highly challenging conditions. Both climbers are seasoned alpinists with previous notable high-altitude accomplishments.
