Telecom at the frontline: Linking development and climate preparedness in Nepal
Telecommunications play a crucial role in disaster preparedness and climate action, yet their vulnerability is often overlooked. Nepal Telecom (NT) supports Early Warning Systems by providing free mass SMS alerts and real-time weather warnings. During the 2017 floods, alerts from NT and Ncell led to the evacuation of over 4,000 people. NT also utilizes VSAT technology for remote areas and is focusing on energy efficiency and green infrastructure, such as solar-hybrid power systems, to reduce its carbon footprint.
