Africa CDC declares continental emergency over Ebola outbreak

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Continental Public Health Emergency. This declaration empowers the Africa CDC to mobilize additional resources to combat the outbreak, which has resulted in 131 deaths in DR Congo and one in Uganda. The agency cited high risks of regional spread due to population movements and weak infection control measures.
