WHO says Ebola outbreak not “pandemic emergency”

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the Ebola epidemic poses a high risk nationally and regionally, but a low risk globally, and is not a pandemic emergency. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed that an Emergency Committee agreed the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda is a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). The outbreak has confirmed cases in the DRC and Uganda, with additional suspected cases and deaths, and the WHO anticipates further increases.
