Nepal Global TechHub Reforms: CAN Federation Urges 1% Corporate Tax for IT
The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN Federation) has urged the government to implement immediate policy reforms to establish Nepal as a Global Tech Hub. They propose a 1% corporate tax for IT companies for 10 years, an 8% cash incentive on IT service exports, and a cap on personal income tax for IT professionals at 25%. The federation also advocates for the IT sector to be officially recognized as an 'Industry' to access benefits, for government IT contracts up to Rs 100 million to be reserved for Nepalese companies, and for mandatory joint ventures with local tech partners in foreign-executed mega projects. Additionally, they call for modernizing cybersecurity, AI, and telecom infrastructure, including fast-tracking local data centers and cloud services, and reducing taxes on internet and telecommunications services.
