Supreme Court Orders No Arrest for Deuba Couple
The Supreme Court has issued an interim order preventing the arrest of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, citing procedural errors in the arrest warrant process. The court found that the Kathmandu District Court incorrectly granted permission for the arrest, bypassing the Special Court which now has jurisdiction over money laundering offenses according to a new ordinance. Grounds for the order include a lack of jurisdiction, procedural mistakes, insufficient reasonable basis for arrest, and the prohibition of arbitrary arrests.
