The Nepali government is proceeding with new political appointments in vacant positions despite ongoing controversies and legal challenges. Complaints have been filed regarding transparency and meritocracy in appointments, leading to Supreme Court intervention in at least one case. The reappointment of previously dismissed officials at Kathmandu University has also sparked dissatisfaction among professors.

A total of 218 candidates have applied for vacant Vice Chancellor positions in eight different universities across Nepal. The Selection and Recommendation Committee has begun scrutinizing the applications, with the highest number of applicants, 50, vying for the position at Tribhuvan University. This process follows the annulment of previous appointments and the initiation of a fresh selection procedure by the government.
