Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve Reports 11,603 Visitors in Current Fiscal Year

The Koshi Tappu Reserve has attracted 11,603 visitors during the current fiscal year 2081-82 BS (2026-27). The majority of visitors, 11,214, were domestic, while 87 came from SAARC countries and 302 from other nations, according to Reserve Chief Bhupendra Prasad Yadav.

  • The reserve, located on an island formed by the Saptakoshi River in Sunsari and Saptari, is renowned for its wild buffalo population.
  • Koshi Tappu is Nepal's only wildlife reserve and a habitat for indigenous wild buffalo, crocodiles, dolphins, and various fish species.
  • The area has been recognized as a Wetland (Ramsar) site since 1987 and serves as a biological corridor connected to eastern India.
  • The reserve, covering 348 sq.km including a 173 sq.km buffer zone, showcases unique forest characteristics and biodiversity of the eastern Tarai and Madhesh region.
