Beni Municipality has commenced the construction of a retaining wall at Mangalaghat to combat erosion from the Myagdi River. The Water Resources and Irrigation Management Project, Kaski, is overseeing the Rs. 10 million project, which aims to protect the vulnerable Mangalaghat settlement. Engineer Narajung Gurung stated that the composite-type wall will be 55 meters long, with construction contracted to Bhairavi Engineering Pvt. Ltd. and scheduled for completion by early July 2026.

  • The retaining wall will feature a four-meter-high RCC structure at the lower section and a three-meter-high gabion wall at the upper section.
  • Over 500 meters of retaining wall have already been constructed in previous phases at Mangalaghat, which houses over 200 homes and government buildings.
  • The Beni Town Protection Project, managed by the Pokhara project office, has been ongoing for five years, with previous embankment work completed last year along the Kaligandaki River.
  • Bhairavi Engineering Pvt. Ltd. was awarded the contract for Rs. 9,919,295 on February 22, 2026, and has mobilized equipment and workers to begin the work.
  • The construction aims to finish before the river's water level rises, mitigating the risk to the settlement.
