Korala Border Checkpoint Enhances Internet and Telephone Services with Upgraded BTS Tower

Internet and telephone services at the Korala border checkpoint along the Nepal-China frontier have been significantly improved following the installation of additional equipment for a micro web BTS tower. A technical team from Nepal Telecom, in coordination with Lomanthang Rural Municipality, upgraded the communication equipment to enhance network reliability in the remote high-altitude region. These upgrades aim to resolve longstanding issues related to weak phone and internet connectivity.

  • The capacity of the batteries and solar panels for the BTS tower has been doubled, with 20 additional solar panels and three 150-ampere backup batteries installed.
  • The upgrades ensure smoother operation of the BTS tower for both 2G and 4G services, improving mobile network and internet availability round-the-clock.
  • Nepal Telecom had initially installed the BTS tower three years ago, but limited equipment capacity had affected service stability.
  • Electricity poles have been installed by the Nepal Electricity Authority, but the transmission line is not yet operational, so the tower continues to run on solar power.
  • The enhanced services are intended to benefit traders operating in the area and tourists visiting the region.
