Nepal Government Offers Incentives for Large-Scale Agriculture and Livestock Investment

The Nepali government, through Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, has announced a budget for Fiscal Year 2083/84 that includes incentive programs for large-scale farmers and livestock investors. Individuals investing a minimum of Rs 2 crore in agriculture or animal husbandry will receive an annual incentive, with specific programs for capital investment and insurance subsidies.

  • A pilot program will offer up to 40 percent incentive grants for farmers investing a minimum of 2 crore capital.
  • Investors of at least Rs 2 crore in agriculture or animal husbandry will receive a 10 percent annual incentive.
  • The government will provide a premium subsidy of up to 80 percent for agricultural crop and livestock insurance.
  • Rs 2.07 billion has been allocated for the National Agriculture Modernization Program to support modernization and commercialization.
  • Rs 32.46 billion is allocated for chemical fertilizer subsidies to ensure the supply of essential agricultural inputs.
