Nepal Government to Regulate Foreign University Campuses Amidst Complaints

Photo · risingnepaldaily.com

The Nepali government is preparing new regulations to govern colleges affiliated with foreign universities, according to Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel. This initiative stems from numerous complaints regarding the operation of such institutions, with a draft regulation already sent to the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Law for feedback before cabinet approval.

  • The Ministry of Education has forwarded the draft regulation to the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Law for their suggestions and approval.
  • Minister Pokharel stated that foreign-affiliated institutions have not been systematically monitored, unlike Nepali universities and colleges.
  • The government is simultaneously advancing three sets of regulations: Education Regulations, Regulations for Educational Consultancy Institutions, and Regulations for Colleges Affiliated to Foreign Universities.
  • The Education Regulations have been introduced because the Education Act could not be tabled in the current parliamentary session.
