Weak monsoon does not mean safety, Hydrology Department warns

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned that even though this year’s monsoon is expected to be weaker with less rainfall, the risk of floods and landslides could still increase. Pauses in monsoon activity followed by sudden weather buildup can trigger intense, localized rainfall with thunderstorms, increasing the likelihood of flash floods and landslides. The department urged the government and concerned agencies to maintain preparedness and response plans, and to keep rescue teams alert in high-risk areas.
