Rs 2.54 billion refunded to victims of crisis-ridden cooperatives

The Economic Survey for the Fiscal Year 2025/26, issued by the Ministry of Finance, reports that 32,325 cooperatives were registered by mid-March 2026, mobilizing Rs 1.029 trillion in savings and providing employment to 82,216 individuals. Of these, 19,903 cooperatives are integrated into the Cooperative and Poverty Information Management System (COPOMIS). The National Cooperative Regulatory Authority regulates the sector, having licensed 834 institutions. Three of the 23 declared crisis-ridden cooperatives have been liquidated, while the remaining 20 are pending asset management and liability payment, with 80,087 claimants registering claims worth Rs 47.60 billion.
