Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has stated that reservoir-based hydroelectric projects are a high priority for the government, crucial for Nepal's long-term energy security and economic development. He emphasized their importance for electricity generation, water management, flood control, irrigation, and tourism, especially in the context of climate change. The Minister directed the Nepal Electricity Authority to develop an integrated model for these projects, highlighting the need to attract domestic and foreign investment and address local community issues and environmental concerns at the Kulekhani project.
