Government Aims for 30,000 MW Electricity by 2035, Focus on Hydropower and Export

The government aims to generate 30,000 megawatts of electricity by 2035, with a focus on both large reservoir-based and run-of-the-river projects. Achieving this target requires policy reforms, infrastructure expansion, and institutional restructuring, which will be addressed in the upcoming budget. The ministry is also developing strategies to increase domestic consumption and export surplus electricity, while prioritizing the expansion of transmission lines and restructuring the Nepal Electricity Authority.
