Petroleum Consumption Drops by Around 10 Percent as Electricity Use Rises

The Economic Survey 2082/83 indicates a decline in petroleum product consumption in Nepal, with petrol use down 10 percent and diesel by 9.9 percent, attributed to increased electricity usage and reduced imports. The use of electric stoves has also decreased cooking gas consumption. While electricity access reaches 99.1 percent, quality supply remains a challenge. Nepal's electricity generation capacity is 4,105 megawatts, with 2,918 gigawatt-hours exported to India. Access to basic drinking water is at 97 percent, but safe drinking water is available to only 29 percent of the population.
