The Government of Nepal has indefinitely suspended the registration of all new public transport vehicles, including electric ones, citing severe lack of scientific management, deteriorating air quality, intense vehicle pressure, traffic congestion, and fuel cost pressures. This decision, made under Section 24 Subsection 3 of the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act of 1993, overrides local governments' authority to issue new permits and has been communicated to all provincial and local bodies.
