Study Reveals Economic Dependence of Women in Biratnagar

A study in Biratnagar, Koshi Province, reveals that 78% of women have no personal income and are economically dependent, with only 28.5% of women aged 18-65 being economically active. The research, covering 41,488 households, also highlights a significant gender division of labor, high rates of child marriage in Dalit and Muslim communities, and underreporting of domestic violence. Despite these issues, the city shows progress in women's health, with 92.5% giving birth in health institutions, and near-universal access to clean water and toilets.
