Six years after their completion and handover, the conference hall and cafeteria within the Republic Memorial area of the Narayanhiti Palace Museum remain non-operational. The Office of the Auditor General, in its 63rd annual report, has directed the Narayanhiti Palace Museum Development Committee to bring these facilities into use.

  • The hall and cafeteria were constructed by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction at a cost of Rs 44.91 crore and handed over on January 17, 2020.
  • The Republic Memorial area, where the facilities are located, spans thirty-five ropanis and also includes underground parking, a martyr's pillar, a map of Nepal, and four pillars.
  • The Narayanhiti Palace Museum Development Committee was established to develop the museum and monument as national, historical, and cultural heritage sites.
  • Despite heavy investment, key infrastructures within the complex continue to remain unused, hindering its intended function as a commemorative site.
