Karnali Region Lacks Industrial Development Despite Government Promises

Karnali province faces significant challenges in industrial development, with a lack of large and medium-scale industries despite government promises and policies. The region's economy is heavily reliant on federal grants, and unemployed youth are forced to seek work abroad. While over 30,000 small and cottage industries are registered, more than half are in crisis, and operating ones face issues with bank interest rates. Efforts to establish large industries like Suryatara Cement and Chaukune Cement Factory have stalled, and provincial government plans for industrial corridors and zones have not materialized due to implementation gaps and policy hurdles.
