The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates an Ebola vaccine could take up to nine months to develop, with two candidate vaccines against the Bundibugyo species undergoing development. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reported 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths, with confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The WHO declared a public health emergency of international concern but stated it is not at a pandemic level, assessing the risk as high nationally and regionally, and low globally. Healthcare facilities are reportedly overwhelmed, and the UK government has pledged £20m to aid containment efforts.
